hah, yes. interesting point and now that you mention this it is very sad. The universities here too, except I am at a very "good" research place - which is to say there is very good classes that aim to educate in what you WANT to actually learn... But most classes that end in "engineering" are completely trieing to get you ready for work.

bad economy+conservative times==short term thinking.. also known as the end of general research, which is unfortunate because that's where real fascinating and unexpected discovery happens

I think in the end, everything has a cicle, and "things" just keep repeating themselves on different stages of "evolution".

it's true in a way. so far there have been strikes and protests every 20 years, 1969, 1989, 2009.
but calling it a circle, I don't know ;) that would imply that there is no change, but there sure is, bad and/or good.

holy crap, this last week was quite an up and down. falling in love shot me through clouds, just to hit the floor again soon after. it sucks because she's got a boyfriend, whom she really likes. furthermore he's a really good friend of mine :X
somehow it's comforting, in the sense that I now know that I CAN fall in love.. I was doubting it already. on the other hand, how am I supposed to know what love (that couple kind) is when it hasn't been returned so far.. I've always had bad luck in that respect, always falling in love with people with whom it never worked out.
all in all it was good that it happened, I learnt a lot from that. ever since I went to vienna I changed a lot, from more or less a loner to quite a social person. who could have known that getting to know new people is that easy? :P

That is so detrimental to progresss.
Nice excuse to not have to think so much though.

It's part of how we think. By identifying cyclic events, repetitions, we can give them a symbol and use them as a concept.
A bit like programming; how series of algorithms that are used frequently get welded into a function.

Your post wasn't wrong, sorry if I was a bit agressive

It's indeed a way of thinking less.
Or typing less in the programming metaphor

lol i mean my dad. let's just say that he's always been somewhat assholish but lately he's been in full-asshole mode. i clash completely with people who need to externalize their anger, you know, those wall-punching, loud, screaming jerks, who are apparently not able to cool down without breaking something. i, in contrast, am the type to internalize conflicts... of course that has its own problems... psychological pain and the risk of bottling up a la hurricane neddy... but anyway it all comes down to my dad being pissed and taking it out on my little sister. to me, physical violence is NEVER justified, specially with a member of your fucking family! i told him this and he said he owned the house and apparently that makes him the absolute, unquestionable master and so if i don't like it i could go away. sigh, he already does alcohol and cocaine, i wish he would smoke weed too so he could chill a bit man.

I smoked weed, strong weed, for first time in a while, long while.

Felt panic attack coming. I went to go urinate, and I looked in the mirror.

All of it went away, forever.

"This isn't a panic attack, this is being high - just enjoy it.."

Smoking weed is STILL not the same as it used to be, my thoughts are still at hyper speed, but now the negative connotation will be gone. This is awesome news for me.. :!:
